Mechanical engineering graduate school rankings:Emerging Wearable Technologies Presented At View For Wearable Sensors Summit

The UC San Diego Center for Wearable Sensors (CWS) hosted its second bi-annual Wearable Sensors Summit on Thursday, Nov. 12. The number featured faculty talks, a pupil poster pitch competition, a poster session together with networking. (View Summit agenda every bit a PDF.)

Partners from manufacture including executives from the Center for Wearable Sensor's newest fellow member companies Dexcom together with Sabic interacted alongside UC San Diego faculty together with students. Attendees learned close roughly of the latest exciting question projects inwards the Center for Wearable Sensors ranging from skin-like electronics to smartphone-based biosensors for portable together with personalized healthcare.

Faculty Presentations

One of the speakers at the number was Professor Sheng Xu, who joined the faculty inwards the Department of NanoEngineering this past times summer. Xu spoke close his question on developing novel “soft” inorganic materials for advanced electronic sensors that tin endure comfortably worn on the skin. Faculty talks likewise featured presentations from calculator scientific discipline together with applied scientific discipline professor Tajana Rosing, nanoengineering professor Darren Lipomi, together with electrical applied scientific discipline professor Drew Hall.

Student Posters together with Research

Student researchers showed off their latest function at the Center for Wearable Sensors (CWS) Summit. During the poster pitch competition, 12 students were each given xc seconds to pitch their question to the audience together with were evaluated past times judges. The kickoff together with minute house awards went to Timothy O’Connor and Kirtana Rajan, respectively.

L-R: CWS Associate Director Patrick Mercier; Peter Simpson from Dexcom, a CWS fellow member company; graduate student Timothy O'Connor, the poster-pitch competition first-place winner; Joseph Wang CWS Director; together with Manish Nandi from Sabic, a CWS fellow member company.

O’Connor pitched his question on ultra lightweight wearable solar cells, together with Rajan pitched her question on electronic paw sensors that wirelessly interpret American Sign Language gestures to text on a computer. Both students are members of Professor Lipomi’s question group.

Attendees had a peril to larn to a greater extent than close these projects together with others at the afternoon pupil poster session.
